California’s Energy Crisis

I grew up in California. They always face the hottest weather in September. This is inconvenient for everyone. I think it’s always strange for high school football teams to have preliminary training when the temperature is soaring. But this is what happened this week. School started classes and the heat wave started.

We were in early September and California was sweltering like a clockwork. The high temperature has put a lot of pressure on California’s power system. Because everyone turns on the air conditioner to keep comfortable.

The main power distribution enterprise in California is CAISO. California independent system entrepreneur. Their job is to ensure that everyone continues to have power, but this is an arduous task this year. In the 23 years they tracked, the highest power demand of CAISO exceeded 50 MWh in just one day. Now, as demand increases, it happens every day.

The CASIO report points out that the total system capacity is 57+MW, so today’s demand is expected to exceed 51 MW, with almost no error.

So I think it will be a good time to see how California manages hot gas. It can be said that California is the most progressive state in the United States, leading the transition to new and more environmentally friendly energy. It is the kind of energy system that President Biden promoted.

CAISO provided details of their energy in one day and gave some interesting results.

At the beginning of the day, the heroes of natural energy are renewable energy, wind energy and solar energy. Renewable energy complies with Biden/California script. From sunrise to noon, renewable energy accounts for more than 30% of the main energy demand, which is ignored. But as we have seen, it comes with some caveats.

After noon, things began to heat up. The real hero in the story, natural gas, became the largest power supplier. In any case, it is clear that California is now producing natural gas. It provides about half of the energy demand during the rest of the day and night in Kali.

When the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, things began to change again. As dusk approaches, all things in the sun are fading. The windmill is still running, but the solar panels will remain closed until tomorrow morning. Renewable energy that works well in the morning will be gradually reduced to 1/5 of the primary production level.

Start using batteries that charge most of the day. In the next four hours, the battery provided about one tenth of the night power. It is about half of the traditional nuclear power plants and coal power plants. Of course, atomic energy and coal can work day and night, but the maximum consumption time of the battery is only 4~6 hours.

Then a strange thing happened. Although it was obvious late at night, reviewing the ranking list, we found that “income” was 24 hours a day California has the right to buy electricity from other states and suppliers every day. Nearly a quarter of California’s late night electricity comes from other places. Hello, Nevada, Arizona, and distant Colorado, you can help California maintain lights.

Therefore, when I step back to look at the picture of California Electric Power, it is clear that California Electric Power Hero is all-weather natural gas. Natural gas/natural gas supplies more than half of Kali’s electricity demand.

Renewable energy, wind and solar energy appeared in the morning, but like the heroines in Hollywood, they also appeared when the curtain fell. There was almost no renewable energy at night.

At night, we saw the reality of California’s electricity emerging from the shadow. In this very green state, the income from the border is the second largest source of electricity at night. We are not sure where they come from. Is it nuclear energy? Or coal? Some neighboring countries have such power stations, so it is very likely.

As a resident of the whole state, I fondly reviewed California, which is a very diverse state with excellent talents and huge resources.

That is a place called dreamer. But it seems to lack discipline. The world needs dreamers, but also people who want to dream; please turn on the light. “;

I believe that CAISO will make this picture public. They hope that some leaders in Sacramento will do so. But to get out of this crisis, good management and financial skills are required.

Anyone can do the exercise we just did. It tells the same story.

economic news

Energy is still the hottest economic topic in the world, and even the European Nuclear Research Institute(Cern) of the giant hadron collider is talking about getting off before the end of the energy crisis. In Norway, their largest energy company estimates that the energy cost will increase by 1.5 trillion dollars this year.

Overnight, China announced that its trade balance in August was about 20% lower than that of the previous month. I suspect this is because of their blockade of the recent covid-19 infectious disease. US imports also slowed down.

Interestingly, how China’s exports have become a measure of the US economy.

In the United States, the 30-year mortgage interest rate was close to 6%, and new mortgage applications fell for four consecutive weeks.

And later this morning, the United States will release our trade balance data. We expect that with the reduction of commercial activities across the Pacific, the number of Chinese will also decrease.
